I couldn't understand the need for Palomino to introduce another Blackwing. I had always thought they did a nice job with the first one. I refer to the Blackwing as the 'Magic Pencil' and gave 5 away to colleagues when I first received that box.

So when I got the email on the new 602 I had to order a box just to find out what was different.

In short, this is a completely different pencil. While the Blackwing has a nice dark line and is very slippery, this 602 is more in the proper drawing pencil area.

It's a harder lead that grabs the paper. I did find it difficult to get a lighter line, so I'm not a big fan of the slogan with that in mind.

It's in the range of a high quality HB.

I'm also not a fan of the pink eraser debate. That would destroy the look of this steel colored pencil. In fact, when the Blackwing came out, I recall that some people were asking for a black eraser over the white one. Since I don't use the pencil erasers I switched them. The white looks good with the new 602. The new black is mean on the Blackwing.

Beyond that, I am reminded that it isn't the tool that makes the artist, it's the art. These pencils however, go a long way in making an artists life easier.

    Be well and get 'tooning'.

I don't normally take the time to comment on products I buy online, but I have to commend you on this one. This is the finest pencil I have ever used, no question. Every aspect I wanted to be improved from the Palomino Blackwing was addressed as though you had read my mind. It is absolutely beautiful - I feel like I am holding a high-end pen when use it. And writes like I dreamed a 602 would. I'm going to have to order more, so that I never run out!

    Palomino Blackwing 602

I am an old school traditional 2D animator and have been so for the past 36 years.

Last Thursday I received in the mail a box of the new Palomino Blackwing 602 pencils. After a side by side comparison with one of my original Eberhard Faber Blackwing 602s, it is my extreme pleasure to report that this new version carries on the look, feel, and spirit of the original line of 602s! In fact, the new 602's line is a little firmer, yet both darker and smoother than that of the original 602.

I also compared the new 602's line with the Palomino Blackwing and the Palomino HB, B, and 2B pencils and can state that the new 602's graphite is different from those, but is just as satisfying to draw and write with.
